daily catalog: 4AM - boy wakes up. crawls from his bed or crib or where he slept. wakes me up. we watch the news or the Disney Channel or PBS or something while i wake up. 5AM - boy wants to wake mom up. i say let mom sleep a little more. we go and torment the cat. 6AM - boy eats breakfast. maybe some cheerios and milk or some crackers or chocolate cake if i can get away with it. chocolate cake for breakfast -- thanks Bill Cosby. 630AM - i tell my wife i need to get to work. 7AM - wake up wife for real and go to work. 715AM - get to work. become working zombie. 5PM - go home. see boy. see wife. make dinner if there's no dinner. if there is dinner, rejoice and feed boy and eat. 530PM - put boy in his little police car and push him around for 30 minutes. 6PM - wrestle with boy. 615PM - read to boy. usually i try to find another chapter of the Lords of Prydain or A Wrinkle in Time or the Sports Page. 630PM - give boy a bath. tell the boy about how soap reduces surface tension and makes cool bubbles. 700PM - boy begins to conk out. 715PM - i should sleep now, but i can't. wife works on her work, and we talk about the day, or watch tv. ah, the joys of parenting. i would not trade a minute of it for anything.
