i think it was Henry Taylor who introduced me
to the line
Wash and dry,
Sort and fold.
You and I
Are growing old.
it's the same old song and dance at work.
we had an Executive Meeting(tm)
followed by a Town Hall(tm)
where our leader gave us the Great Report(tm)
on the status of their work.
except the report wasn't really much of anything --
same old "yes we're still on track,"
(but no significant news to report)
"yes we're using a fact-based approach,"
(as opposed to the fiction-based approach
that is so chic in business these days)
and "yes there is a light at the end of this tunnel"
(no, it's not an oncoming train, but i see
a light, so if i see it, you see it too).
it's embarrassing and scary to think that executives
believe that their underlings will buy shit
like this. as if there's no brain in our heads
as employees to figure out that after a year,
no, after three years of this and really
nothing tangible to show, we would miraculously
rally around this effort. i've gotten nothing but
1. stress, which lead to
2. weight gain, which lead to
3. crankiness and short temper to my family, which lead to
4. therapy.
to top it off, our execs decided to either
(a) be aloof when employees were venting, or
(b) suddenly show that they're executives
and swung their heavy hammer.
this will be a dead-end, no growth job for the next
six months if not longer.
this has been a dead-end, no growth job for almost
three years now.
time to move on. i am going to start
moving on. i already have started.
too bad. i really liked this company
before they started acting as if
employees had no fucking clue.
