i almost see the point to having children
for zostrich
so he has just recovered
from his summer virus,
the endless hours of vomiting
and diarrhea and fever
and still the discomfort
of the second ticking by
will not leave him.
it's inexorable, this malaise,
that in less than one month
the world has gone from his oyster
to his brussel sprout,
the broccoli kryptonite
of his being that leads
to my insomnia. it's 1:30PM now,
hot, dry, the California
that is and should be
and my son is Godzilla
who has discovered the power
of an opposable thumb.
and my battery now says
30 seconds
if that and i will lose
this moment of the green
and the garden hose
and how i know how Moses felt
when it rained
that maybe God was just
a child at that point
and the only action figure
he wanted to keep was one
that loved animals
and was not afraid
of getting wet.
